“When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure.”
-Peter Marshall
Background
I am a licensed clinical professional counselor specializing in grief counseling and loss. Based in Montgomery County, MD, I am licensed to practice in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and New York. I earned a Master’s degree in mental health counseling from New York University, a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgetown University, and a Certificate in Thanatology (CT) and a Fellow in Thanatology (FT) from the Association for Death Education and Counseling. I currently serve as the Book Review Editor for OMEGA — Journal of Death and Dying, as well as on the Medical Advisory Board for Living Beyond Breast Cancer.
My background includes work as a hospice bereavement counselor, an oncology clinical therapist, a support staff member for family caregivers, and a regulatory project associate for oncology clinical trials. I have experience providing individual and group counseling for both children and adults, and have facilitated groups for parent loss, spousal loss, sibling loss, advanced colorectal cancer, caregivers, and children (adjustment to cancer in the family and bereavement groups).
I am passionate about supporting my clients, friends, and family as they walk through difficult times in life, and find this work to be deeply meaningful. My self-care involves singing, listening to Broadway musicals, playing the piano, painting, biking, being in nature, and chocolate.
